Coming out of lockdown - resist the panic approach!

Updated: Apr 14, 2021

We've all done it over the last year - eaten more, drunk more, exercised less. So here we are faced with a lifting of lockdown and the urge that we need to fix the weight gain and slack behaviours as quickly as possible. Although it's tempting, my strong recommendation is that going on a quick fix diet is not going to give you the results you're looking for. You've heard the saying that diets make you fat? Well, they absolutely do. At least 65% of people regain more weight after a diet has ended, than they lost in the first place. But those are ones who manage to lose weight, for 85% of people, diets don't even achieve their desired weight loss. There are many evidential physiological and psychological reasons for this.

So, whilst I know that you'd like to undo the last year's lockdown impact in two months. Chances are you won't be able to do it. So just let that one go.

Instead, take a deep breath and decide to correct the eating patterns and any weight gain in a lasting way. A mindful eating, intuitive approach will teach you how to manage your weight without any restriction or calorie controlled diet plan. It simply uses your own body's natural ability to keep your weight stable and helps you correct the psychology that leads to overeating. We can do it, if we learn to THINK better around food and allow our physiological system to work its magic.
